SHED Studio is a collaborative architectural design partnership with a commitment to sustainability, social justice issues and innovation in design. SHED Studio was established in 2006 and we are currently located and licensed in the states of Illinois and Massachusetts.

We work with a diverse group of clients serving those in need to develop solutions that respond in a multi-dimensional way to the mission of the client and the community. We share our clients’ commitment to create safer communities through supportive services, affordable housing, entrepreneurial training and other community enriching programs, while providing a warm and friendly environment where people feel safe, cared for, and respected. The mission of most of our clients is about bringing hope and elevating the human spirit. Our creative goal is to capture that spirit in the design and aesthetics of the project, and create a space that has moments of transformation and excitement.

Our view of design is essentially collaborative in nature with the client bringing a level of expertise to the table that spurs creative thinking on our part. We use a participatory approach to work with a variety of constituents customizing it to match the client’s needs and work culture.  Because most of our clients are public or non-profit entities with multiple stakeholders, we regularly engage client representatives, diverse team members and community groups in the design process to obtain multi-dimensional input, enable decision-making and feedback, and build consensus. We have facilitated workshops ranging from open brainstorming sessions with large groups to more focused, smaller group sessions with selected participants.  We have developed strategies to engage viewpoints from all age-groups.

At SHED Studio, we offer Architectural, Master Planning, Interior Design, Project Management, Feasibility & Re-positioning Studies, Post-Occupancy Analysis and LEED Consulting Services. We provide services from inception to completion of the project.  Our smaller size guarantees the direct involvement of Principal and Senior Project Manager in all stages, providing the expertise that ensures successful completion of your project.  We also have a deep expertise in permitting and working with various regulatory and governmental agencies.
